A Most Special Puppy

This precious angel came to us unexpectedly when his family reached out for help.

Jango isn’t your average puppy. After his mother gave birth to a stillborn puppy, Jango was next, and was stuck in her birth canal for hours until he was finally born. It’s a miracle he even survived.

As a result, Jango showed signs of what was thought to be “Swimmer’s Syndrome”, which causes him to constantly paddle his legs as a turtle would when out of water.

After a vet visit and an X-ray, we learned that it is not Swimmer’s Syndrome that our precious puppy is dealing with, but a spinal deformity caused by being caught in his mother’s birth canal. This cannot be corrected with surgery.

Jango’s foster family includes four special needs dogs, three are hind paralyzed and one has cerebellar hypoplasia. One of these dogs is Scarlett, who has never shown any motherly characteristics in her nine years of life, but has taken on such a role with Jango. She is always watching him, corrects him appropriately, butt checks him when he is annoying to her or the other dogs, and gives him doses of motherly love.

Jango’s foster mom is working on so many ways to help him, and we are researching every option to make his life as happy and healthy as possible. We do not know what the future holds for Jango but this beautiful baby is in the very best place and the most capable of hands.
